New Clients

You are in the right place! It is so important to take steps to support mental health. We would be happy to talk more with you about your concerns and about the types of support we offer. Are you looking for support through counseling/therapy, or would you like to begin with a personalized assessment to find out more about your unique strengths and weaknesses?

Comprehensive Assessment

If you are interested in a comprehensive assessment, we offer testing that addresses the following areas: cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, adaptive skills, social skills, personality, career interest, and academic achievement. These evaluations are in-depth and assess a variety of domains, based on the referral concerns. The comprehensive summary reports reflect strengths and weaknesses, diagnostic impressions, as well as goal areas and recommendations. The cost varies depending on the depth, purpose, and scope of each assessment. We often assess for concerns related to: anxiety, depression, attention/focus (ADHD), conduct problems, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional behavior, panic, social difficulties, learning challenges, low self-esteem, career fit, and family changes. See our Assessment page for additional details about the types of evaluations we offer.

Supportive Therapy

When starting therapy, we begin with a brief assessment to clarify the main concerns and develop focus areas/goals for therapy. The brief assessment typically consists of an interview, record review, and any needed social-emotional-behavioral rating scales. The initial brief assessment is included as part of the first clinical intake session. We then move into either in-person or online teletherapy. People typically participate in therapy sessions once every 1-2 weeks to start. Sessions are around one hour each, and the format is one-on-one with the therapist. We focus on positive interventions to help reach personal goals.

Often, positive skill-building exercises include some of the following interventions: formulating resilient thoughts, practicing mindfulness, finding anxiety relief, controlling impulses, practicing self-compassion, finding panic relief, developing emotional Intelligence, practicing optimism, identifying and applying character strengths, setting goals, managing anger, quieting the inner critic, confronting conflict, and boosting resilience.

For children: The brief assessment may also include parent/guardian interviews, child observations, and consultation with school staff (optional). Children typically meet one-on-one with the therapist weekly or biweekly. Periodic updates are provided to the parents/guardians about the child’s progress toward therapy goals. Ongoing collaboration between parents and the therapist is encouraged to promote generalization of new skills across different environments. Visit our Therapy page for additional details.

Solution-Focused Consultation

Are you concerned about a family member’s or student’s well-being? Do you wish you had more tools to support a child, parent, or partner who is struggling?
